Bear: Looks Within
A music video created for bravo!FACT with live footage and animation.

This was a music video project created for bravo!FACT on the bravo! Canada network. I was approached by director/producer Theresa Wynnyk and co-producer Peter Hansen to provide the animated portion of the video which would be edited together with live performance footage.

The music for the video is the third movement of renowned composer Malcolm Forsyth's new concert piece Trickster Coyote, Lightning Elk. The footage was recorded live in concert with celebrated violinist Tara-Louise Montour (who commissioned the piece), and The Edmonton Youth Orchestra conducted by Michael Massey.

The beautiful artwork for the animated portion was provided by acclaimed visual artist Maxine Noel, using elements from her existing paintings as well as new elements created specifically for this project. Additional painting on various elements was done by me in Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop was also used extensively to translate the elements into an animation-ready format, and the animation was then created in Adobe After Effects. The completed animated sequences were edited together with the live footage by Ms. Wynnyk and Brenda Terning.

The story for the animated portion was conceived by Ms. Wynnyk and is inspired by the aboriginal legend of a giant bear that is terrorizing many villages. He is chased into the sky by three brave brothers. One of their arrows pierce his heart and as the blood rains down upon the earth, the leaves of the trees turn red, bringing Autumn to the world for the first time.

'Bear: Looks Within' has its premiere airing on bravo! Canada on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at 4:30 pm PT / 7:30 pm ET, with repeat showings on Friday, July 23, 2010 and Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 5:00pm PT / 8:00pm ET.
