Flash Application
Virtual Field Work Project Lab Simulator
University of Calgary GeoScience Department

September 2008

Due to the nature of this project, access to the finished application is not available to the public.

The Geoscience Department at The University of Calgary wanted to create an interactive enhancement to their student labs. Working with PhilterDesign, Hotrocket, and Watershed Creations, I was tasked to create a 7-Lab application that would utilize dynamic XML-driven data. The students would complete the interactive portions of the lab, and upload Flash-created screenshots of their results to the lab repository, which could then be marked by the instructor.

Project Features

  • Single swf file. Application built dynamically at runtime based on lab number chosen.
  • XML driven
  • Feature: Grid-Based initial map with dynamically placed hidden areas
  • Feature: Dragable map with updating UML coordinates, and dynamically-placed hidden geographic points
  • Feature: Simulated Compass and Clinometer
  • Feature: Drawing and Image Capture functionality (utilizing PHP)
